Drivers Over 17 Years Old

If you’re 17 or older…

If you are over 17 years old, you do not need to take a driver’s ed class!

However, you will need to apply for an adult learners permit at the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and take an information exam to receive your permit before starting the 6 hours in-car instruction.

If you are under 18 years old and have NOT graduated, you need either a verification of compliance (VOC) letter from your school’s counselor’s office or homeschool affidavit provided at the DMV.

If you are under 18 years old and HAVE graduated, you can supply your diploma or other proof of graduation to apply for your adult learners permit at the DMV, then proceed with the information exam.
